Fatal Footprint : 98% civilians casualties

First report on the worldwide human impact of cluster munitions

On 2 November 2006 Handicap International released a groundbreaking report about the casualties of cluster sub-munitions in 24 affected countries and areas. Unexploded sub munitions continue to injure and kill on a daily basis, and 98% of all casualties are civilians. Sadly, children account for almost a third of these casualties. This global study on the human impact of cluster munitions is more relevant than ever.

This global study on the human impact of cluster munitions is more relevant than ever. A vast majority of affected civilians are men and boys at work. A total of 11,044 casualties were recorded. But with incomplete or non-existent data collection in most areas, this figure is only the tip of the iceberg.
