Our presence in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Since 1991, following requests from national partners (Ministries or provincial institutions), Handicap International has been working in Vietnam as technical advisor for the implementation of projects focusing on Prevention and Rehabilitation of disabilities due to war, accidents, congenital defects, or disabling diseases. Up to now, 19 projects have been implemented in the country, progressively being adapted to the country’s evolutions. In the first decade, the projects were focused on the disabling consequences of war and poverty (unexploded ordnance, diseases like poliomyelitis or leprosy….). Because of fast economical growth the new century brought new problems: increasing accidents from labour or traffic, increasing cerebral palsy, etc… .
