SOS Mosha
On June 9th, Mosha, a seven-month old asian elephant, hit a landmine in Thailand and needed an amputation. Handicap International decided to publicise his story so that the Belgians remember that personal landmines, clusterbombs and other non exploded engines are unfortunately still very much a reality.

Every day, in all parts of the world, mines kill or mutilate women, children and animals, without distinction. Mosha’s picture appeared in five belgian newspapers on september 13 a much noticed campaign because of the « Mambo » campaign launched around the same period by the car manufacturer Renault, that featured a lost elephant.

Handicap International does not finance projects for animal rights. The idea of the campaign was to say; if the damages are so great for an elephant, you can imagine what they would be for a human being.

This having been said, the impact of the landmines on wildlife and vegetation, is real and important. By its actions Handicap International contributes to the cleaning of the land and the protection of wildlife and vegetation.
